Shelfport: help and column guide
Shelfport exports your collections to a spreadsheet and imports them back, into the same store or another one. Every import is previewed before anything is saved, and can be undone from History.
Set up in 3 steps
- Back up. Export → All collections → Export. The file is Excel (.xlsx) by default; CSV or JSON are also offered. Keep it: it is a full backup.
- Edit. Open the file in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets, or start from the template on the Home tab.
- Import. Import → choose the file → Preview changes → Import. Undo it from History if you change your mind.
How the file works
Shelfport reads Excel (.xlsx) and CSV files, and its own JSON backups. A row with an ID updates that collection, even if
you changed its Handle (that renames it). Without an ID (or with an ID from another store), collections are matched by Handle:
a handle that exists is updated; a new one creates a collection. One collection can use
several rows: each extra row with the same handle adds one Rule (smart collections) or one Product handle (manual collections),
in order. Blank cells leave a field as it is. To empty a field on purpose, write [clear].
| Column | What to put in it |
|---|---|
| ID | Filled in by the export. Leave it as it is to update that collection; leave it blank on rows for new collections. |
| Handle | The collection's URL handle, e.g. summer-sale. If blank, it is made from the Title. |
| Title | Required for a new collection. |
| Type | smart (fills itself from rules) or manual (you pick the products). Shopify cannot convert one into the other. |
| Match | Smart only: all (every rule must match) or any. |
| Rule | Smart only, one per row: field test value, e.g. tag equals summer, variant_price less_than 50,
vendor starts_with Acme, variant_inventory greater_than 0, is_price_reduced is_set,
product_metafield[custom.material] equals cotton.Fields: tag, title, type, vendor, variant_price, variant_compare_at_price, variant_weight, variant_inventory, variant_title, is_price_reduced, product_category_id, product_metafield[ns.key], variant_metafield[ns.key]. Tests: equals, not_equals, greater_than, less_than, starts_with, ends_with, contains, not_contains, is_set, is_not_set. |
| Product handle | Manual only, one per row, in the order you want. Choose Add (keep other products) or Make the list exact (add, remove and reorder) on the Import tab. Up to 5,000 products per collection. |
| Description HTML | The collection description, as HTML. |
| Sort order | MOST_RELEVANT (Shopify's default), MANUAL, BEST_SELLING, ALPHA_ASC, ALPHA_DESC, PRICE_ASC, PRICE_DESC, CREATED, CREATED_DESC. |
| Template suffix | The theme template to use, e.g. landing for collection.landing.json. |
| SEO title / SEO description | What search engines show. |
| Image URL / Image alt text | A public image URL (Shopify copies it) and its alt text. |
| Published | TRUE or FALSE: visible on the Online Store. New collections are published unless this says FALSE. |
| Metafield: ns.key [type] | One column per collection metafield, e.g. Metafield: custom.banner_text [single_line_text_field]. |
Files in the Matrixify layout (as made by Collection Import Export and similar tools) import too: Body HTML, Image Src, Must Match, Rule: Product Column / Rule: Relation / Rule: Condition, Product: Handle and Metafield: title_tag / description_tag (SEO title and description) are read; informational columns such as Updated At or Row # are ignored. Old-style .xls workbooks need saving as .xlsx first.
Copy collections to another store
Install Shelfport on both stores. Export from the first, import into the second. Product handles are matched in the new store, so products must exist there with the same handles; any that don't are listed in the preview and skipped.
Undo
History → Undo → Confirm undo. Collections the import created are deleted; collections it changed get back their previous title, description, SEO, image, rules, metafields, publishing and product list. Free plan: 7 days; Pro: 30 days.
Plans
Free: unlimited exports and backups, imports of up to 25 collections per file, 7-day undo. Pro ($7.99/month or $79/year, 7-day free trial): unlimited collections per import, 30-day undo, priority support. Billing is through Shopify.
